Guernsey Baskets Workshop
Guernsey Baskets Workshop
Claire Gaudion
Join Claire Gaudion for a basket making workshop to make a Guernsey ponier à cou.
This course will run over two days. It will be a joyful, busy two days learning to make the small size willow ponier à cou, with a wire frame - as is traditional to Claire's family and Guernsey heritage. The basket measures approx w 29 x d 17 x h 22 cm.
You will start with a small frame ready-made by Claire. Claire will take you through every step of the willow weaving process and show you how to add the extra wire ribs. If time allows, you will also learn how to splice the rope shoulder strap; or Claire can add this for you!
All materials and tools will be provided.
Delicious refreshments including teas and coffee and lunch will be provided.
Please note that making a ponier à cou involves working with wood, wire and willow and a selection of hand held tools, and strong hands. That said, it is suitable for beginners or those with willow experience; Claire will tailor the teaching to suit you.
